2012 is here! Will you plan on feeding your creative soul?
I’m excited to let you know about the 12 session Drawing Class that will start in January!
This class is for you if:
- You’ve always wanted to draw but wished you were given some formal instruction (but not the intimidating kind!)
- You are ready to reawaken the creativity you had as a child (I’ll break it down for you and teach you step-by-step.)
- You want to gain more confidence in drawing, so you can have a great foundation for painting.
Here are the nitty gritty details of the sessions and what we will cover:
Sessions 1-6 Handling of charcoal and working on this Bargue plate using classical techniques (sightsize – the drawing is the same size as the original):
Session 7 – The importance of lighting and our own portraiture photoshoot!
Sessions 8-12 Working on each other’s picture portraits (sight size or comparative drawing (the drawing is either smaller or bigger than the original.)
What other things are you getting?
- small group setting (6 students max.) at my private home
- simple Bargue Plate warmups so we can gain a better understanding of angles and shapes
- tasty refreshments
- inspiring community
- encouraging, but challenging feedback from me – your drawing coach!
- you’ll receive fresh sets of charcoal (Nitram)
- all other materials for the class will be provided for you
- a little art getaway every week

“While I really enjoyed drawing and painting as a teenager, I was a bit hesitant about taking lessons from a professional artist. I had never taken a formal art class before and wasn’t sure if the lessons would be accessible to a novice. I was also concerned that I would have trouble finding time for an art class since I was already busy juggling my work and family commitments. I am glad I got over my fears and signed up for The Art Getaway. I would absolutely recommend The Art Getaway to others. You are wonderful teacher. Not only is your art inspiring, you have a rare gift of being able to clearly communicate both the end objective and the techniques needed to get there. While my (much) younger self produced copious amounts of art that was primarily free-flowing abstractions (and thus consigned to the recycling bin), the wiser me is beginning to notice and appreciate finer details like proportions, angles, shapes, negative space etc. Thanks for inspiring me to pick up a pencil again after 20 years!” - Smita, Princeton
- Your eyes will become even more sensitive to exactness of shapes and angles.
- You will be able to identify drawing problems and figure out how to solve them.
- You will gain more confidence in putting down an image with just the help of your eyes and the tool that is in your hands.
- You will know how to light your own subjects.
- You will not be intimidated by drawing a portrait.
